MATH MEET 2019 { schedule }

Note: The schedule below is a "work in progress". Please remember that times/locations may change. In addition, new information will be posted as it becomes available, including the titles and grade restrictions for the timed sprints.
8:00AM-10:00AM Teacher Breakfast / Registration
Location: 3rd Floor RSS
Teachers pickup t-shirts and packets containing All-Day Sprint questions. Any changes in schedule will be announced at this time.
8:45AM-10:00AM Written Tests
Location: See personalized schedule in Confirmation Packet.
The written test is a multiple choice test. There are three levels depending on the highest course taken by the student. Every participant in the Math Meet takes one of the Written Tests. They are calculator-free. Students must be registered and have an ID Number (assigned by us during the registration process) to take a Written Test. Prizes are awarded both for highest individual scores and for highest total score for a group of four students from each school. Prizes include trophies and plaques.
10:15AM-11:00AM Jr Varsity Team Elim / Round 1
Location: See personalized schedule in Confirmation Packet.
For students in 10th grade and lower only. An event styled after a game-show in which a team of four members from each participating school competes to answer questions projected on a screen. Only winners of this first round proceed to round 2.
10:30AM-11:00AM Timed Sprint
Location: RITA 101
Students are presented with a sequence of questions. The score is determined by the number of correct answers in a row beginning with the first one. All of those who can reach the maximum score in the room are declared winners of the event. Space is limited, but no preregistration is required. We ask that no individual student participates in consecutive Timed Sprints so that there is enough room for all students who wish to participate.

Timed Sprint name: Pre-Calculus

Level: Any level student may participate.
10:30AM-11:30AM Chemistry Sprint
Location: RSS 252
This is a chemistry quiz for individual students consisting of problems from high school chemistry. A periodic table will be provided. No calculators are allowed. Space is limited, but no preregistration is required.
10:30AM-11:30AM Physics Brainstorm
Location: 117 Maybank Hall
This test is a timed physics problem test for a team of four or fewer students. The test consists of approximately ten algebra-based written problems from the varoius topics under the broad heading of mechanics, thermal physics, and fluids. Calculators are permitted but not wireless web access. You may enter more than one team in this event.

Timed Sprint name: The 2019 Sprint

Level: Any level student may participate.
12:00PM-1:00PM Math Brainstorm
Location: RSS third floor
Each team will work together to solve a set of problems using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
12:00PM-2:00PM All-Day Sprint Collection
Location: Maybank Hall (out front)
In the packet teachers receive in the morning there are All-Day Sprint Questions. These questions, which are not necessarily entirely mathematical, can be worked on by students during any free time during the day. A single answer sheet will be turned in for each school, so it is a group effort. Generally, these questions involve decoding and perhaps knowledge of some non-mathematical subjects including geography or history. (The teachers are not allowed to help the students with these questions!)

The answers must be submitted by 2PM and the winner selected at random from the correctly completed answer forms.

Calculators may be used.

12:30PM-1:15PM Jr Varsity Team Elim / Round 2
Location: 235 Robert S Small Bldg
Only those teams which win the first round participate in the second round of this gameshow styled event.
12:45PM-1:30PM Varsity Team Elim / Round 2
Location: 100 Maybank Hall
Only those teams which win the first round participate in the second round of this gameshow styled event.
1:15PM-1:45PM Math Team Relay
Location: See personalized schedule in Confirmation Packet.
The members of each 4 person team (only one team from each school) will answer questions in series. That is, the question each team member answers depends on the answer of the member who came before them so that all four members must answer correctly for the final answer to be correct. The earlier questions are designed to be answered by students at lower grade levels, so that the ideal team would be made up of one student in each grade from 9-12.
1:15PM-1:45PM Physics Sprint
Location: 117 Maybank Hall
This is an untimed physics quiz for individual students. The test consists of one algebra-based written problem from mechanics, thermal physics, or fluids. Calculators are permitted but not wireless web access.
2:00PM-2:30PM Jr Varsity Team Elim / Round 3
Location: RITA 101
Only two schools compete in the final round of this competition for 9th and 10th grade teams. Run in Quiz Bowl format, the event is open to spectators.
